About Karen Killins-Robinson...
BC Coastal Representative for the Canadian Quilters’ Association
Former President of the Victoria Quilters’ Guild
Born and raised near Thunder Bay, Ontario. I’ve also lived in Whitehorse, Yukon and the lower mainland.
Currently living in the Cowichan Valley with my husband Doug and our American cocker KD.
I am a fibre artist exploring innovative techniques in surface design and texture. My objective is to create fibre art that allows the viewer to relate in some meaningful way.
Although I teach free motion quilting, my pieces often involve some hand stitching whether it's French knots, seed stitching or embroidery stitches. The needle pulling thread has its own rhythm that is peaceful and relaxing.
The Fibre Arts movement really brought quilting into focus for me. I’ve has been experimenting with a variety of surface design techniques such as painting, stitching, image transfers and dyeing. Scrim, Lutradur, Tyvek, Shiva and Angelina are common in my vocabulary.
I enjoy monthly experiments with my Starfish Fibre Arts group. My work has been shown at Guild Shows, Trend-Tex Challenges for CQA, Fibrations, Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery, solo shows both at Satin Moon Quilt Shop & Kaleidoscope Quilt Shop.
In my spare time, I have written articles for The Canadian Quilter and Quilters’ Connection Magazines and continue to promote quilting whenever possible.
